The islands of Hawaii are generally quite safe with few crimes reported. It does tend to get very busy over the peak seasons though and for this reason it is best to be aware of your surroundings. Try to keep your valuables out of sight and don’t walk around alone late in the evenings. Women are also advised to carry handbags close to their body as theft does sometimes occur.

On the island that you’ll be staying you may want to move around on foot or hire a bicycle. There is also a scheduled bus service that can be found on the larger islands such as Oahu and Hawaii (Big Island). Try to avoid using taxis as these have been known to be really expensive.
