Euro Rail.. Everything You Need To Know!

Did you know that with one Rail ticket you can tour the whole of Europe? We have grown up watching movies like “Before Sunrise” and dreaming about all those wonderful sceneries to be watched from the train windows. Well, they can be true if you set your mind to it. Even though the Eurail passes only really work if you get the right pass and plan your trip well. But with a bit of organized planning, you can make the most out of a “once in a lifetime” experience.

What is the Euro Rail?

The Eurail pass, formerly known as “Europass” or “Eurorail pass”, is a train pass that allows pass holders to travel in 28 European countries on nearly all European railroads and some shipping lines. The Eurail Pass is valid for travel with participating train, ferry and public transport companies.

How many countries can I get to?

Well, that depends on the price and type of pass you have purchased. Some passes can get you to up to 5 countries, other passes have limitless access to transportation. So you have to plan your trip accordingly so that you do not pay for benifits that you do not need.

How do I plan it?

We suggest that you plan your trip first, and then plan the transportation. Remember, Euroail is not cost-effective at all times. It highly depends on the type of trip you’re planning. We recommend that you search for neighboring countries and/or multiple cities within each country. For example, if you are going to Vienna (Austria), you might as well put Salzburg (Austria) and Hungary on your list. It will not make much sense to choose Portugal as a second destination.

How much does it cost?

There are different kinds of passes. Passes that allow you to go to 2/3 bordering countries and other global passes that allow you to travel to a number of different countries within the European Union and neighboring areas. prices are not necessarily cheaper than taking a charter flight or traveling by bus, but the experience is worth it. The price range can start from EUR 250 and goes all the way up to EUR 1,000. It all depends on what kind of pass you need, it’s expiry date, and how many cities it can get you to.

How do I book?

Yes, you can buy certain Eurail Passes at European train stations, but this is more expensive than ordering online. We recommend you order your Eurail Pass with and have it delivered to your home or work address. Eurail also delivers to Europe, including to hotels and hostels. Also, you’re in luck if you are a student, as you get a good discount with your student ID.
