10 Things To Do If You’re Stuck At An Airport

Be it a long layover or a delayed flight, you must have experienced spending hours at the airport doing nothing. And because we know that boredom can be a killer, we are bringing you some fun ideas that will help you entertain yourself the next time you are in the same situation.

1. Make new friends

The fastest, easiest, and most fun of all. Turn to the person next to you and ask them where they’re from and start a conversation about that place. Buy an old person a drink and start asking for their advice about your career or love life. Just walk up to a random person and pop up a conversation. The worst that can happen is a “No”, which is not terrible.

2. Create a bucket list

Unlike a lot of people, I am a huge fan of lists. Tp-do lists, grocery lists, and above all Bucket lists! Nothing can keep you inspired and give you motivation to move forward more than a bucket list. Write down all the things you want to do, hobbies you want to try, places you want to see. Just putting those things on paper can give you perspective (and provide entertainment for a good amount of time).

3. Read

airport book

People would usually rather check their newsfeed than read a book. However, airports, especially the ones with no internet or bad connections, wouldn’t give you much choice, would it. It will be a good time to catch up on some reading, if you don’t have a book with you, go to the airport bookshop select a random book, turn into a random chapter and just read it.. See if you get hooked.. You can also rap a map and with your eyes closed pin point a random place, see if you know a lot about it, and go search the shop for information about this destination. Who knows, maybe it turns out to be your next holiday trip..

4. learn something new..

If you don’t have an idea for something to learn, ask a random person what their job is, what they’re studying, or what do they do in their spare time, it gives you new ideas..

5. Check out what the airport has to offer..

Shops, restaurants, lounges, gyms, and massages. Most airports would have a variety of shops that offers a lot of different things. Personally, I like snooping around for free stuff. The Istanbul Ataturk airport for instance has the best Turkish delights, and you can always munch on the free samples. Same with Perfumes, make-up, and others..

6. Play silly airport games

Check out the departures screen and see if you can correctly identify the countries for each of the destination cities listed. Try to guess the languages people are speaking around, and then ask them if you guessed correctly. Adding a little crazy can be fun too..

7. It’s time for some grooming

Instead of applying your nail polish before hanging out and risking ruining them. Just put them while you’re at the airport, the waiting wouldn’t go in vain in that situation. Guys can shave in the spacious airport bathrooms. You can rearrange your suitcases. A million things can be accomplished while you wait. Don’t be afrain to bring out you Tom Hanks side in the Terminal.

8. Clean up, clean up, clean up

Clean out your wallet, cluttered computer folders, the million photos taking up all the phone memory space. It’s time to go through it and get rid of the unnecessary stuff.

9. Watch a movie on your laptop..

Seems basic, but it works.

10. Read your rights

In case you’re flight is delayed, it would be a really good idea to read your passengers rights. More times than not you will find that you have a right to stuff that didn’t occur to you; a free hotel for the long layover, a free meal for the delayed flight, even cash compensations. It wouldn’t hurt to check..

Have something to say...
