British Midlands International (BMI) Airlines have great offers on cheap flights within the UK and Europe as well as to destinations in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Now available to book from South Africa on Travelstart, you can use the flight booking engine on this page to search and book BMI flights.
With a fleet totaling 17 aircraft (including A330-200’s and A320-200’s) BMI flies to over 40 destinations across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The airline also has codeshare agreements with Air Canada, Air New Zealand, United Airways and Virgin Atlantic helping to extend their global reach.
The following BMI baggage allowance applies to passengers flying within the UK (includes Ireland):
- Economy Class: 1 piece at 20kg max.
- Business Class: Unlimited pieces not exceeding a combined weight of 30kg. Sports equipment is included as part of BMI’s free baggage allowance
If you’re flying with an infant then British Midlands Airlines allow one piece of hold baggage, with a maximum weight of 10kg, in addition to one fully collapsible stroller.
Relationship with British Airways
The sale of BMI British Midlands to the IAG group (also owns Iberia and British Airways) was completed in April 2012. While the takeover means the main BMI airline is to be integrated with British Airways, subsidiaries BMI Baby and BMI Regional will remain independent.
To stay up-to-date about BMI flights’ integration into British Airways, see the official website.
Star Alliance Membership Status
As of April 2012 British Midlands BMI is no longer a member of the Star Alliance. This was a result of BMI’s changing ownership from Lufthansa to the International Airlines Group (IAG). Star Alliance benefits are no longer available to British Midlands Airlines passengers (including Diamond Club members).
Even after BMI's exit, the Star Alliance continues to maintain a strong presence in the UK with more than 3000 weekly flights to and from the UK. These flights connect 12 UK airports directly to destinations in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.
